Director, Marketing Resource Center – South

Position Summary: The Director manages a team of marketing professionals in the Marketing Resource Center based in Texas which serves the Nature Conservancy in Texas and over time, may also serve a limited number of other Nature Conservancy programs across the region. As a member of the Marketing department, s/he will provide strategic direction as well as the tools, support and direct action necessary to engage key audiences to achieve pre-determined conservation outcomes for the Texas program. S/he will lead the development of marketing plans, messages and materials in support of the Nature Conservancy’s three marketing objectives:
Become the most respected organization among key audiences
Influence local conservation activities among a broader constituency
Increase major gifts fundraising to support conservation goals
The MRC Director will share best practices with other MRC Directors/Associate Directors in order to gain operational synergy across the Marketing organization. S/he will communicate the progress of projects on a regular basis and prepare and conduct regular utilization reviews.
S/he will staff the office in accordance with direction from the Director of Field Marketing and as work load and budget permit. S/he will provide input to the annual budgeting process and be accountable for adherence to the approved budget. The MRC Director will be a vocal advocate for adherence to policies and procedures set forth by the Worldwide Office of The Nature Conservancy and the leader in creating a positive work environment for Texas-based MRC staff.
The Director reports to the Director of Field Marketing and supervises a staff of three: a media relations manager, writer and marketing specialist.
Duties:
1. Develop and implement the Texas marketing and media plan in collaboration with the program’s senior managers and other staff.
2. Provide strategic marketing and crisis communication guidance primarily for the Texas program, and other partners as needed, and serve as a member of the Nature Conservancy in Texas management team. Represent MRC at Texas Board of Trustee Meetings and serve as member of the MRC leadership team.
3. Hire, supervise and manage MRC staff based on approved protocol. Set overall and annual objectives for staff managed.
4. Ensure timely implementation of marketing/media plans within budget.
5. Manage marketing/production budgets for program partner(s).
6. Identify strategic issues that need to be addressed by senior management.
7. Provide input to Director of Field Marketing on operational budgets.
8. Oversee MRC compliance with TNC policies and procedures.
9. Ensure consistent implementation of visual identity standards, branding and key messages.
10. Lead organization-wide working groups.
11. Contribute to development of marketing agreements with new program partners.
12. Serve as primary liaison with non-program partners in assigned region.
Requirements, Knowledge and Skills:
• Degree in marketing, advertising, communications, public relations, journalism, business management, or related field.
• 10 to 15 years of experience in the development of strategic marketing plans, implementation of marketing programs, and measurement of results.
• Experience managing a team of staff.
• Knowledge of managing operating budgets.
• Corporate, Public Relations or Advertising Agency experience a plus.
• Expertise in more than one of the following marketing disciplines: media relations, marketing planning, measurement, events, digital media, publication production, or writing.
• Experience in management of marketing/ production budgets.
• Experience managing vendors.
• Experience working with executives and senior management as a management team member.
• Experience writing for a variety of print and electronic vehicles, including press materials, brochures, presentations, fact sheets, and the Internet.
• Excellent oral and written communication and presentation skills.
• Project management skills including use of software to communicate and manage deliverables.
• Proven ability to work functionally with people from other groups without reporting relationships.
• Ability & willingness to travel domestically or internationally as needed.
• Personal passion for preserving and protecting the natural world with a belief in the mission, principles, and values of The Nature Conservancy’s global approach to conservation.
