In 1885 there was a need in Oregon to help children. Caring community leaders came together and laid the foundation for Boys & Girls Aid. The agency provides permanent homes for children in need of adoption and safe places for youth who need a stable place to live temporarily. Experienced staff and specially trained mentors help young people develop skills needed to grow, learn, and become successful adults despite difficult circumstances in their lives.
The Director of Development reports to the Executive Director, serves on the senior management team and leads a team of five development professionals. The Director of Development is responsible for leading, managing and growing all fundraising programs, setting attainable annual and/or campaign goals to increase numbers of new donors, renewing donors, major gift donors, and corporate sponsors. The Director of Development will play a key role motivating and training board members, volunteers and staff in fundraising methods and solicitation techniques.
The Director of Development will first and foremost possess a genuine interest and passion for children, for Boys & Girls Aid programs, and be thoroughly committed to the mission of the organization. We seek an entrepreneurial and social individual who is highly skilled in all aspects of fund development including major gifts, building endowments, annual fund, planned giving and special events. Boys & Girls Aid seeks an individual skilled in shaping and leading a department by mentoring, training and encouraging staff. The ideal candidate is a dynamic development professional with a high level of energy and someone who demonstrates a fearless and aggressive approach when is comes to promoting programs and raising significant funds.
An undergraduate degree is required; a graduate degree is preferred. Excellent communication skills are essential. Extensive experience in non-profit fundraising is required as is experience building and growing a major gifts program. Experience working with non-profit Boards and five years of management experience is needed. Knowledge and understanding of technology and the role it plays in fund development is strongly preferred. Experience working within a social service, not-for-profit, youth development organization is helpful but not essential.
