Staff Writer

JOB SUMMARY
The staff writer produces easily understandable text for apartment market publications read by industry professionals. For these publications, he/she analyzes and interprets information packaged by the data resources department, producing readable summaries of apartment market conditions in multiple markets across the U.S. Some text will be original work, produced from the above mentioned packaged data; other text will involve editing work used in previous editions of the publication. Interacts with data resources staff in analyzing data and with production staff to get graphics prepared. Works with printers and other vendors to get product delivered.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
 Write original copy and edit copy produced by others
 View data with critical eye, discussing with managing editor, research consultants and data resources department when figures require explanation
 Study individual markets, tracking trends through newspapers, online news sources and industry publications
 Participate in production of graphics, as appropriate. This could involve interpreting data for production department, reviewing graphics that have been created, or modifying existing graphics
 Fact check data used in publications written by other writers on the staff
 Work with vendors, such as printers, as appropriate

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES
• Bachelor’s degree
• Ideal candidate offers both writing expertise and knowledge of the real estate industry. Can be a business writer who is familiar with apartment/real estate market or a real estate professional with strong writing skills. Candidates will need to provide writing samples.
• Command of writing/editing fundamentals.
• Working knowledge of Word, and Excel or comparable software
• Comfortable dealing with data and numbers
• Good work ethic, including sense of individual responsibility
• Strong attention to detail/detail-oriented
• Comfortable with strict deadlines
• Works well in a team setting
• Can multitask, adapt to shifting priorities
• Comfortable working on new products in a growing company
